HCCA's
51st Client Hospital

I am thrilled to announce HCCA's 51st client
hospital, Schneider Regional Medical Center (SRMC).
SRMC is located on St. Thomas, United States Virgin
Islands.
SRMC is a modern, Joint Commission accredited
hospital that provides comprehensive and specialty
care in the gorgeous tropical setting of the
English-speaking U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI). See
www.srmedicalcenter.org for more information.
The USVI consists of St. Thomas, St. John, and St.
Croix and they float in the Greater Antilles between
the Atlantic and Caribbean some 1,000 miles from the
southern tip of Florida. This is HCCA's first
contract with a U.S. territory and because of this
we expect our nurses will have questions. As a
territory, the USVI is under the jurisdiction of the
federal government of the United States. Entry
requirements for non-U.S. citizens are the same as
for entering the United States from any foreign
destination.
The Chief Nursing Officer of SRMC is Angela Rennalls-Atkinson.
Of St. Thomas Ms. Rennalls-Atkinson says, "This is
paradise. I have worked on the mainland
myself--spent most of my time in New York. One of
the things that pushed me here was snow storms and
temperatures below 30 degrees. Anything below 30
degrees is too cold!"
Instead of shivering and shoveling snow, she and her
nurses enjoy living and working in tropical beauty
where a more leisurely pace of life creates
dramatically different, more humane and pleasant
days. Here, Rennalls-Atkinson says, "life simply
becomes easier and better."
SRMC is a 169-bed facility. HCCA nurses will find a
strong support structure where they will likely see
Ms. Rennalls-Atkinson each day. Staff there also
say SRMC is more family-oriented than most large
institutions.
Many more details will be forthcoming after CSI
completes an implementation meeting in September.
Best regards,
Ted L. Merhoff
