Pamela's Perseverance
Thrice
the Charm

Passing the NCLEX is no easy feat,
and for the many nurses that have passed, NCLEX is a
proud achievement, marking a time of hard work,
dedication, and sacrifice.
For Pamela Merciales, a former staff
nurse at UST Hospital, passing NCLEX means even
more. Pamela joined the HCCA family in October
2003, having passed CGFNS, and excited about moving
to America with her one-year old daughter. To get
there, though, Pamela would have to pass NCLEX.
Unfortunately, she did not. Still committed to her
American dream, Pamela took NCLEX again, only to
find that she had failed a second time. Still,
Pamela remained determined. With a positive
attitude and with the support of her father who took
care of his granddaughter, Pamela persevered,
passing the NCLEX on her third take.
Pamela’s focused determination and
positive attitude was also rewarded at work when
Pamela was recommended for a promotion to Unit
Supervisor. Not long thereafter, Pamela was
interviewed and hired by Jackson-Madison County
General Hospital as part of HCCA’s Hiring Fest 2007.
And as a third reward, Pamela was invited for her US
Embassy Interview during the brief suspension of
Retrogression in July.
Now, after three NCLEX exams, three
Retrogressions, and four years of working towards
her American dream, Pamela Merciales will leave this
October for her new life in Tennessee, as a
Medical/Surgical Nurse in Jackson-Madison County
General Hospital. Congratulations, Pamela! You make
us proud!
