Second MDH Fellows Roll-out Program

HCCA’s Institute of Nursing
Excellence recently concluded the second Manila
Doctors Hospital (MDH) Fellows Roll-out Program last
July 27. The program culminated with a lecture and
hands-on series that was facilitated by Jun Peralta
and Arthur Cantos at the Bayani Nurse Center Skills
Lab.
Focus was placed on the six major
skills essential to the nursing practice: critical
thinking and interpersonal communication skills,
airway management, tube management and
documentation, assessment skills, IV line management
and dealing with emergencies.
What the Nurses are Saying:
“The program should be recommended to
nurses and nursing students because it is an
effective refresher course. It helped us with our
skills and we found out that certain practices are
only applicable in the Philippines and not in other
countries such as the USA”
“The lecturers really know what
they’re talking about. Please continue to share
your knowledge to other aspiring nurses who want to
practice in America. The passion you have for the
profession has rubbed off on us and you have made us
love nursing even more.”
Indeed, the program not only equips
the nurses with a refresher course on theories and
skills, but prepares them for Western culture as
well. According to Miriam Tayabas, HCCA’s Nurse
Development Manager, “It is an excellent way of
introducing the new Filipino nurse to Western
standards because the instructors are experienced
RNs who practiced in both the USA and the
Philippines.”
HCCA’s Fellows Program gives Manila
Doctors College (MDC) seniors a chance to prepare
for international nursing assignments. Around fifty
(50) participants are nominated by the school and
hospital based on their work, grades, interest in
working in the USA, personality, as well as their
ability to communicate in English. A third batch is
expected to be formed later on in the year. |
