U.s.t. skills fair 2009 - horizons IV

by Ronald Iledan

No, It's not a NASA space ship and definitely not the fourth sequel to another science fiction movie. But yes, Horizons IV has something to do with science, - the science of nursing.

HCCA and the UST College of Nursing immersed some 500 senior nursing students in a week long event (March 9 to 14) to develop the technical, interpersonal, and nurse to patient skills of each participant, helping them meet the expectations of the global health care environment. Launched in 2006, the "Nursing Skills Fair" had been a yearly tradition among the faculty and graduating nurse students of UST.

One can't help but be nostalgic when getting a glimpse of the students' excitement for being a part of this important undertaking. The exuberance of youth and their eagerness to conquer takes you back in time when you open another chapter of your life to explore new horizons. By looking at what lies ahead, the UST nursing faculty bequeath their students with tools they need to excel in their field and become future nursing leaders.

As a creator of Horizons, A Nursing Skills Enhancement Program, HCCA encouraged the senior nurses to give back what they learned to the Filipino community, by providing at least 2 years of nursing service, imparting their education, training and experience for the good of the country before travelling abroad for employment.
